About Kids Under Canvas

Kids Under Canvas began with a simple, slightly desperate question, asked on a Friday afternoon with two stir-crazy children and half a tank of petrol: where can we camp tonight that they will actually love?

We live in the Vale of White Horse, under the chalk hill where England's oldest horse gallops across the down. Within an hour of our door lie three of the best family camping counties in the UK: Oxfordshire with its riverbanks, the Cotswolds with its farm parks and honey-stone villages, and Wiltshire with its ancient forests and stone circles. But finding the right site meant a dozen open tabs, out-of-date facility lists and reviews written by people whose priorities were quiet and adults-only.

So we built the guide we wanted. Every campsite here is within about 50 miles of Faringdon SN7. Every one is welcoming to families with children. And every listing tracks the same 16 facilities, from tents and electric hook-up to pools, saunas, pizza nights and campfires, so you can compare honestly at a glance. Every listing also carries our verdict and one honest niggle, because no campsite is perfect and pretending otherwise helps nobody.

About the photography

The photographs on this site are illustrative stock images chosen for atmosphere, they are not photographs of the campsites themselves. We label them as such on every page. As the guide grows we plan to replace them with each site's own photography, with permission.

What we are not

We are not a booking platform. We take no commission, no listing fees and no freebies. When you find your site, book with the campsite directly. Facility details change season to season (details last checked July 2026), so treat our listings as a well-informed starting point and always confirm with the site before you travel.
