August bank holiday camping

The August bank holiday is the last big campfire of summer, and the busiest camping weekend of the year. Every site in the guide is open; the trick is booking well ahead and arriving Friday morning rather than Friday evening, when the lanes around the honeypot villages crawl.

Water is the winning theme for a hot late-August weekend: the Cotswold Water Park beaches, the upper Thames meadows and the lakeside parks all earn their crowds. Book the quieter inland farms if you would rather trade splash for space.

Which campsites still have space for August bank holiday?

The larger parks (Hoburne Cotswold, Diamond Farm, Lincoln Farm Park, Hardwick Parks) hold the most late availability, and pub campsites sometimes keep back walk-in pitches midweek. The small farm sites are usually gone by early summer, so book those months ahead or target the weekend after.
