October half-term camping

October half-term camping is a different sport: conkers, golden woods, dark skies by seven and hot chocolate with genuine purpose. The reward for packing twice the layers is autumn colour, empty sites and wildlife parks without queues.

The all-year and late-season sites below keep their facilities heated and their gates open. Aim for the sites near a town or a big indoor day out, and treat a two-night trip as the sweet spot rather than a full week under canvas.

38 of our 52 sites are open, showing the 12 closest to SN7

Is October half-term too cold for camping with children?

Not with the right kit and site. Choose somewhere with heated facilities (the all-year club sites and family parks in this guide), pack winter-rated sleeping bags and double sleeping mats, plan one big indoor day out, and keep the trip to two or three nights. Frosty mornings with hot chocolate are the good bit.
